In TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, the three main modes—Story, Arcade, and Survival—offer different gameplay experiences:

Story Mode

  • You progress through the game level by level, and your progression is automatically saved at the end of each level.
  • You can replay levels to complete challenges, collect items, and improve your performance.
  • Characters can level up, gaining extra health and new moves as they progress.
  • Ideal for a casual or completionist experience.

Arcade Mode

  • Designed to replicate the classic arcade experience—you must complete the game in one sitting.
  • No saves—if you run out of lives/continues, you start over from the beginning.
  • No character progression—all moves and abilities are available from the start.
  • Focuses on high scores and limited resources, making it more challenging.
  • Perfect for players looking for a retro, skill-based challenge.

The Custom Game option lets you modify various gameplay settings to create a more personalized or challenging experience:

  • You can toggle different modifiers that affect gameplay, difficulty, and mechanics.
  • Some options make the game harder (e.g., no super attacks, no revives), while others make it easier (e.g., infinite lives).

Survival Mode (added in the Dimension Shellshock DLC, included after unlocking the full game)

  • A roguelike-inspired mode where you fight through waves of enemies in small arenas.
  • Earn crystals to travel between dimensions with different visual styles and challenges.
  • Power-ups and temporary buffs appear, allowing for different strategies.
  • You can unlock new skins/colors for characters as rewards.
  • If you lose all your lives during a run, you'll need to start over from the beginning. However, any unlocked character skins and colors are retained and can be used in future sessions.
  • Great for endless replayability and cooperative fun.
