The Family Trials mode is an expansion of the base game that offers a more roguelike gameplay, distinct from the main campaign. This means death is permanent within each session. Every time you start, you begin with a level 1 character, without the upgrades acquired in previous runs. However, the entire Bergson family, along with all their abilities, is available right from the beginning.
To unlock Family Trials you have to reach the first boss (Spider on the Third Floor) in the Story Mode.
Each Family Trials session takes place in the Zyklus Dungeon, and dungeon levels are entirely randomized with each entry. You must advance by completing various objectives, such as defeating specific enemies or rescuing NPCs. Progress is measured by the bosses defeated and levels completed.
- Throughout your journey, you can obtain items, runes, skills, or blessings that temporarily enhance your character. At the end of each run, depending on your performance, you unlock rewards that may include permanent upgrades for your next session, though they are not directly transferable to the main campaign.
- The traditional Skill Tree has been replaced by a new Talent System. Upon leveling up, characters can choose a new Talent. Runes no longer drop in dungeons, as they've been integrated into the Talent System.
- Gemshards act as the primary currency in Family Trials mode—use them in the shop to gamble for rewards, upgrade your equipment, and acquire new items.
This mode also introduces two new difficulty levels, Hard and Insane, where you must complete more stages to finish the game.
Have fun !
